Four Longhorns named to Big 12 All-Freshman Team

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Texas Longhorns had four players named to the 14-player Big 12 All-Freshman Team, in voting conducted by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Infielder Brooks Marlow and pitchers John Curtiss, Parker French and Dillon Peters gave the Longhorns a league-high four honorees. Baylor and Texas A&M were the only other schools with multiple selections with three and two choices, respectively. Texas, which expects to return a wealth of talent in 2013, also led the league with four All-Freshman Team members in 2011.
French was the league's lone unanimous selection. He was also tabbed the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a All-Big 12 Honorable Mention on Tuesday.
Marlow has appeared in all 50 games, including 49 starts. He is hitting .214 with 25 runs, four doubles, two triples, two home runs and 29 RBI. He leads the team with 12 sacrifice bunts. He is the first player in school history to hit two home runs in his first career game with a pair in the season opener against Duke.
The Giddings product started all 24 league games at second base, hitting .193 with nine runs, two doubles and 15 RBI.
Curtiss ranks second on the Longhorns pitching staff with 27 appearances, including three starts. He is 2-2 on the year with two saves and a 3.28 ERA. In 57.2 innings of work, he has allowed 50 hits and 24 walks while striking out 43.
In 12 league appearances, including one start, Curtiss registered a 0-0 record with two saves and a 3.81 ERA. He allowed 25 hits and 13 walks while fanning 14 over 26.0 innings.
Parker French was also an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honoree and tabbed the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. He had his season cut short with a stress fracture in his elbow. He finished the year with a 6-2 record, two saves and a 2.84 ERA. He yielded 58 hits and 19 walks while fanning 30 over 66.2 innings. He led all conference freshmen in ERA.
The Dripping Springs native appeared in eight league games, including seven starts, registering a 4-1 record with one save and a 2.54 ERA. He allowed 31 hits and 11 walks while striking out 14 over 26.0 innings.
Dillon Peters has appeared in 23 games, including 11 starts. He owns a 4-1 record with a 3.18 ERA. He has allowed 31 hits and 18 walks while recording 43 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.
The Indianapolis import appeared in 11 league games, including four starts, registering a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA. He allowed 14 hits and six walks while striking out 18 over 13.1 innings.
This marks the second year the Big 12 has fielded an all-freshman squad. Last season, the Longhorns had four selections to the team with Corey Knebel and Erich Weiss earning unanimous recognition. They were joined on the squad by Jacob Felts and Mark Payton.
Texas is the No. 3 seed at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Longhorns begin play at the tournament on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Missouri Tigers.
