A dominant and durable pitching ace known for her patented high-velocity riseball, Blaire Luna established herself as one of the most accomplished pitchers in Texas, Big 12, and NCAA history. A four-time All-American, four-time All-Big 12 selection, and three-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top-10 finalist, Luna averaged nearly 11 strikeouts per game during her remarkable collegiate career and remains one of the most decorated players to wear the Burnt Orange. She earned First-Team All-America honors in 2011 and 2013 and Second-Team All-America recognition in 2010 and 2012. A four-time All-Big 12 selection, earning first-team honors in 2010, 2011, and 2013 and second-team accolades in 2012, Luna was also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. During her four seasons on the Forty Acres, Luna compiled a 112-35 career record while totaling 1,428 strikeouts, eight no-hitters, one perfect game, 48 shutouts, and more than 914 innings pitched. She ranks second in program history in nearly every major pitching category, including wins, strikeouts, innings pitched (914.1), complete games (109), shutouts, starts (135), appearances (163), and no-hitters. In her four-year career, Luna helped lead Texas to the 2010 Big 12 Conference Championship, NCAA Super Regional appearances in 2012 and 2013, a Women’s College World Series semifinals appearance in 2013, and an overall record of 187-48 with national Top-20 finishes in each of her four seasons, including consecutive Top-10 finishes in 2012 (No. 9) and 2013 (No. 3). Luna burst onto the national scene as a freshman in 2010, winning 30 games while leading the Big 12 with 404 strikeouts. She was named both Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year after throwing an eight-inning no-hitter against No. 19 North Carolina in her collegiate debut and recording a career-high 17 strikeouts against DePaul in just her second appearance. As a senior in 2013, Luna posted 32 victories and 422 strikeouts while leading Texas to the NCAA Super Regionals, a Women’s College World Series semifinal appearance, and a No. 3 national ranking. She became one of only two Longhorn pitchers to record multiple 400-strikeout seasons. Before arriving at Texas, the Austin native starred at Bowie High School, where she was a two-time All-Centex Player of the Year by the Austin American-Statesman and led the Bulldogs to back-to-back UIL State Championship Game appearances. Following her collegiate career, Luna played professionally for two seasons with the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league before continuing her career overseas in both Italy and New Zealand. Luna earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Education: Physical Culture & Sports from The University of Texas in 2013 and later completed her master’s degree in Elementary Education from the American College of Education in 2018. She went on to earn her Educational Diagnostician certification from Lamar University and currently serves as an Educational Diagnostician in Katy ISD.
