A two-year starter who became one of the nation’s premier defensive players as a junior in 2014, Malcom Brown was a consensus first-team All-American, one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation’s top defensive player) and one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy (nation’s best interior lineman) that year. A 2014 First-Team All-Big 12 selection and Texas Team Captain, he became one of a small list of elite interior linemen in Longhorn history to earn Team MVP honors that year, as well. A former five-star prospect from Brenham High School, he played in 39 games as a Longhorn, starting his final 26, and registered 29 career tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and 165 tackles. He led the team in sacks (6.5) and tackles-for-loss (15) while posting 72 tackles in 2014. Brown was the first Longhorn since fellow Texas Athletics Hall of Honor member Tony Degrate in 1984 to lead the team in TFLs from the defensive tackle position. As a sophomore in 2013, Brown started all 13 games and posted 12 tackles-for-loss and 68 tackles. He declared for the NFL Draft following his junior campaign and was a first-round selection (No. 32 overall) of the New England Patriots. Brown played seven NFL seasons, four with the Patriots (2015-18), two with the New Orleans Saints (2019-20) and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021). All totaled, he saw action in 106 career NFL games with 97 starts and compiled 304 career tackles, 13.5 sacks, 27 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He played in three-straight Super Bowls with the Patriots in the 2016 (Super Bowl LI), 2017 (Super Bowl LII) and 2018 (Super Bowl LIII) seasons — winning a pair of Super Bowl rings (2017, 2018). The three Super Bowl appearances are tied for most by a Longhorn — most recently by another Texas Athletics Hall of Honoree defensive tackle, Casey Hampton — while the two super bowl titles match the most in program history, as well. Brown served as head football coach at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School for two seasons and returned to school at UT in the fall of 2025 to work toward completing his degree. Brown is on pace to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Education in the summer session of 2026. He resides in Austin and is a proud father of five children — Rayna, Mayah, Malcom Jr., Mina, and Millie.
