Dodds, Conradt honored at Neighborhood Longhorns' 15th anniversary

UT Men's Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds and Women's Basketball coach Jody Conradt were among a group that was honored Wednesday, Dec. 13, for overall contributions to The University of Texas Neighborhood Longhorns program.
The Neighborhood Longhorns program is a community outreach partnership between The University of Texas, the Austin business community and the Austin Independent School District. It serves economically disadvantaged youth in grades 3 through 8 who are at higher risk of experiencing academic difficulties.
Dodds and Conradt were recognized at the group's 15th anniversary event at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center on the UT campus.
The other honorees were Donna Lopiano, chief executive officer, Women's Sports Foundation; Kenneth Jastrow, II, chief executive officer, Temple-Inland, Inc.; Judy Parker, teacher, Govalle Elementary School (Austin); and Edwin Sharpe, Jr., clinical professor, Department of Educational Administration, The University of Texas.
"The many contributions made by these six outstanding individuals have resulted in the success we have today," said Celina Ruiz-Snowden, director of the Neighborhood Longhorns program. "We are forever indebted to their guidance, and what better way to recognize the 15th anniversary of the program than by honoring them."
Neighborhood Longhorns strives to improve reading, math, science, language arts skills and overall grade performance; increase student retention rates; and provide scholarships for students to obtain a college education.
The Neighborhood Longhorns program has served more than 19,000 students since its start in 1991. Currently the program has 23 participating Title 1 elementary and middle schools.
