NEW YORK CITY -- University of Texas Women's Track and Field signee Bianca Knight will compete in a field of seven professionals in the 200-meter dash at the 2007 Reebok Grand Prix on Saturday, June 2 at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City.
Knight, the only female high school athlete entered, will run against a field of the best sprinters from the United States and Jamaica, including Monique Henderson, Rachelle Smith, Sheri-Ann Brooks, Lashaunte'a Moore, Tahesia Harrigan, Nadine Palmer and Michelle Lewis.
An hour-and-a-half segment of action from the USATF meet will air on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. CT.
Knight, the 2005-06 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, is one of the top sprinters in the nation. She has claimed 15 Mississippi Class 4A State Championships. In 2005, Knight won the 100 and placed second in the 200 at the World Junior Championship. She is the U.S. indoor high school record holder in the 200 (22.97), a time that would have placed her in the top 15 in the NCAA. She has a personal best outdoor 200 times of 23.06.
Knight joins Matthew Centrowitz, a senior at Broadneck High School (Annapolis, Md.), as the only two high school stars invited to compete in the elite open division of the meet. He will run the mile.
