Kilmartin tabbed ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas senior decathlete Donovan Kilmartin was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced. This is the third Academic All-District honor of his career and he is now eligible for the Academic All-America team.
A graduate student pursuing a master's degree in petroleum engineering, Kilmartin earned his undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering from Texas in May 2007 with a 3.55 GPA. He was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team in 2006 and '07 and is a four-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 team. Kilmartin also was presented with the Texas Exes Leadership Award, which is given to a UT men's athlete who embodies the attributes that are valued in alumni leadership, at the 2007 Men's Athletics Academic Awards Banquet.
Kilmartin has won five Big 12 titles and is the reigning Big 12 decathlon champion after capturing the crown with a tally of 7,675 points, a score that ranks eighth nationally. He finished fifth in 2006 and fourth in '05 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Eagle, Idaho, native also is a three-time NCAA Champion in the heptathlon (indoors), the only male in NCAA history to win the event three times. He set a then-NCAA record in the heptathlon with a score of 6,136 points as a freshman.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must a varsity starter or key reserve for their respective teams, maintain a minimum 3.20 GPA and must have reached sophomore athletics and academic standings at their institutions to be nominated.
