Hersey takes ninth in 200m butterfly at FINA World Championships

ROME -- University of Texas rising sophomore Kathleen Hersey narrowly missed out on a berth in the 200-meter butterfly finals after placing ninth in the event's semifinal round Wednesday on day four of the 2009 FINA World Championships.
Hersey (Roswell, Ga.), a 200m butterfly finalist at the Beijing Olympics, qualified 11th in Wednesday's preliminary round in 2 minutes, 7.34 seconds. Hersey placed fourth in her semifinal heat in 2:06.89 but missed out on a spot in Thursday's finals by four one-hundredths of a second.
Canada's Audrey Lacroix took the last finals berth at 2:06.85 while edging Hersey for third place in the semifinal heat.
