Hersey takes fifth in 100m butterfly at USA Swimming National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Texas rising sophomore Kathleen Hersey led the Longhorns' contingent by placing fifth in the 100-meter butterfly Tuesday evening on day one of the 2009 USA Swimming National Championships.
Hersey (Roswell, Ga.) took fifth in the 100m butterfly "A" final in 58.36 seconds. Christine Magnuson and Dana Vollmer took first and second, respectively, to earn berths on the United States' world championship team. Texas-Ex Tanica Jamison tied for fifth in the 100m butterfly "C" final in 1:00.66, and incoming freshman Caroline McElhany took seventh in 1:00.73.
Texas rising sophomore Leah Gingrich added a third-place finish in the 400m freestyle "B" final in 4:13.69, and incoming freshman Laura Sogar claimed the 200m individual medley "C" final in 2:15.60.
