AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas junior Chantel Malone has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Women's Track and Field Academic All-District 6 second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. The honor is Malone's first from the organization.
Malone (Tortola, British Virgin Islands), who carries a 3.68 GPA in Kinesiology/Pre-Med studies, also earned her second-straight Academic All-Big 12 first team honor earlier this year.
The junior is in the midst of her most successful campaign at Texas, having swept the Big 12 Conference Indoor and Outdoor long jump titles to become just the fifth athlete in conference history to do so. Most recently, Malone finished first in the long jump at the NCAA West Preliminary meet with a personal-best leap of 21-6.25 (6.56m) to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championship finals.
Along with the long jump, Malone will also be competing in the triple jump and running a leg of the Horns' 4x400m relay at the national outdoor meet, held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
