AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas Men's Track and Field Team has added Petter Olson (Malmö, Sweden) to its 2011-12 signing class, head coach Bubba Thornton announced. Olson, who will compete in the heptathlon and decathlon, signed his National Letter of Intent and will join the Horns in the fall.
Olson brings personal-bests of 7,470 (decathlon) and 5,682 (heptathlon) to the Forty Acres. His heptathlon personal best would automatically qualify him for the NCAA Indoor Championships if it was in collegiate competition. He was the 2009 Swedish National Indoor Heptathlon Champion, while regularly competing for the Swedish junior team. Most recently he placed eighth in the decathlon with 7,515 points at the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships in July of 2010. In addition, his junior decathlon mark of 7,763 points ranked sixth in the world at the end of the 2010 outdoor season.
Olson joins an already stellar recruiting class for the Longhorns that includes Ryan Crouser, Sheroid Evans, Aaron Scott, Craig Lutz, Kyle Thompson, Will Antkowiak and Mark Pinales.
