AUSTIN, Texas -- Track and Field News selected former Longhorn Trey Hardee as the 2011 U.S. Men's Athlete of the Year.
Hardee claimed his second World Championship in the decathlon last summer despite injuring his elbow while throwing the javelin. He posted his best time of the season in the 1500m run with his arm heavily wrapped to close out the title. He also won the world title in 2009.
Now Hardee is recovering from his injury in hopes of achieving an Olympic medal this summer in London.
Other award winners from Track and Field News for 2011 were David Rudisha (World Men's AOY), Vivian Cheruiyot (World Women's AOY) and Carmelita Jeter (U.S. Women's AOY).
