AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas softball standout Taylor Hoagland has received one of 32 initial invitations to the 2015 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp, according to a Thursday release from the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) and USA Softball.
The camp is slated to be held over January 4-8, 2015, at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif. Those athletes receiving an invitation to try out will vie for one of 17 spots on the 2015 USA Softball Women's National Team roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in July of 2015 and for a spot on the 15-member roster that will travel to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, over July 15-26 for the 2015 Pan American Games.
Additional athletes may be invited to the USA Softball WNT Selection Camp at a later date. During the five-day selection process athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).
A 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American selection and a four-time Big 12 Conference choice for Texas, Hoagland played for Team USA during the squad's 2013 & 2014 campaigns. The Flower Mound, Texas, native, completed her stay on the Forty Acres as the school's all-time leader in home runs (58), runs scored (221), walks (178), slugging percentage (.708) and on-base percentage (.501), and recently helped the Red, White & Blue to a gold medal at the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX and to a silver medal at the 2014 ISF Women's World Championship.
Texas has had at least one current or former Longhorn on the USA National Team in 18 of the last 19 years.
