Second baseman Bret Boswell went a span of 235 consecutive chances without making an error in 2017.
AUSTIN, Texas—Texas Baseball's Bret Boswell has been named a finalist for the ABCA/Rawlings Collegiate Second Baseman Gold Glove Award presented annually to the top defensive player at each position in NCAA Division I baseball.
Boswell is joined by Oregon State's Nick Madrigal and SIUE's Alek Skender as the three finalists at the position.
Boswell was stellar defensively for the Longhorns this season. The redshirt-junior made just two errors in 268 chances, good for a .993 fielding percentage on the year. His errors essentially bookended the season, as he made one on his first chance of the year and did not make another until the Big 12 Conference Baseball Championship, going a span of 235 chances without a blemish.
The Rockwall native helped turn 47 of the team's 65 double plays, the fourth-most double plays for any team in the nation. As a team, the Horns finished with a .982 fielding percentage, also fourth-best in the country.
Last week, Boswell was selected in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
