Nine UT players earn first-team honors.
IRVING, Texas — A total of 11 University of Texas Men's Basketball players have earned spots on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team, the league office announced Tuesday. The 11 representatives marked the most selections of any team in the conference.
Nine UT players earned first-team honors, including senior guard Matt Coleman III, senior guard Jase Febres, senior forward Royce Hamm Jr., junior forward Kamaka Hepa, redshirt junior guard Andrew Jones, sophomore Kai Jones, senior forward Blake Nevins, junior guard Courtney Ramey and senior guard Drayton Whiteside. Redshirt sophomore forward Brock Cunningham and sophomore guard Donovan Williams claimed spots on the second team.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA. Second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Coleman earned his third career selection to the academic all-league team, as he also earned second-team mention in both his sophomore and junior seasons. Hepa and Cunningham claimed their second career selections to the squad.
To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and met all the other criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
