AUSTIN, Texas – Together with Truist, congratulations to April's Hook 'Em's Community Heroes: from Baseball, Tanner Witt, and from Softball, Lou Gilbert.
Tanner's experience with Texas Baseball Performance Coach Matt Couch's son's condition has given him a cause to support.
"I will always remember the smile and joy Carter Couch brought to our field every day. No matter what had happened earlier that day, seeing his infectious happiness put an immediate smile on your face. I will always do my best to help the fight against childhood epilepsy in honor of Carter!"
Lou has dealt with vision care in her family, and her experience drives her to help others in similar situations.
"I am passionate about early childhood vision care because my nine-year-old niece has dyslexia. The early intervention of eye care in her case is a key contributor to her staying in grade level in reading and being able to be successful in the classroom and later in life. My dad and I have volunteered at local elementary schools to get optometrists to do more in depth eye exams for kids who showed to be more at risk after their basic exams on the Snellen chart."
In recognition of their causes, Truist is proud to donate $500 each to organizations that provide childhood epilepsy awareness and pediatric vision care.
