Longhorns level-up their content creation skills.
(Austin, Texas – February 12, 2024) - For Valentine's Day, the University of Texas at Austin showed their student-athletes some love by not only coordinating a tangible skills NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) content creation workshop, but also partnered with Longhorn Sports Properties to identify JBL to supply products for them to practice on and get NIL deals!
"There is no better experience than having to do something in real-time" Dr. Shauna Sobers, Director of the 4EVER TEXAS Student-Athlete Development Program shared as she explained how the workshop came about. When the LEVERAGE (UT's NIL Education Program) Planning Team discussed what was needed to take the Longhorns to the next level in the NIL space, they agreed that it had to be something to sharpen the student-athletes' content creation skills so they are prepared to provide innovative content desirable to brands.
4EVER TEXAS Student-Athlete Development is a comprehensive and transformational program designed to educate, equip, and empower Longhorn student-athletes for success while in college and beyond. This workshop brought together subject matter experts and available resources, in this case a prominent NIL content creator Sam Green and corporate brand JBL, in support of the student-athlete's developing transferrable skills and confidence in NIL video content creation. When top-tier universities like Texas provide resources for their [student]-athletes' education, it's a win for college sports as a whole. Texas identified a gap and brought me in to fill it." Green stated.
Texas and Green worked with Longhorn Sports Properties, a division of LEARFIELD and an exclusive multimedia rightsholder of Texas Athletics, to identify audio brand JBL as a sponsor for the workshop to support their content creation experience. The Texas women's soccer team and many individual student-athletes from multiple sports participated in the workshops. Each of the participating student-athletes received JBL headphones and speakers to use in their content creation and promotion.
"[This workshop] helped me better understand the importance of marketing myself while also creating content for NIL deals." - Savvy Jerome, UT Rowing Student-Athlete In 90-minutes the student-athletes recorded a video, then learned how to edit original audio, add music, voice overs, captions and transitions so that by the end of the workshop, they were ready to post their content if they chose to accept the NIL brand deal. Most importantly, the student-athletes left the workshop with tools to build their brand and effectively partner with future brands.
This is one of many workshops the 4EVER TEXAS Program and LEVERAGE planning team have in store regarding content creation for UT student-athletes. Another Spring 2024 workshop will focus on developing podcast content creation skills and will again include detailed instruction and opportunities to practice.
