Women's Athletics Hall of Honor Bylaws
Article I. Purpose
1. The Women's Athletics Hall of Honor of The University of Texas recognizes individuals for exceptional contributions to The University of Texas, The University of Texas women's athletics program, and the community-at-large. The Women's Athletics Hall of Honor is under the direction of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women at the University of Texas at Austin.
Article II. Inductees
1. Inductees of The University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor may include former players, current or former coaches, current or former administrators, or other individuals who have distinguished themselves by outstanding support and significant contributions to the women's athletics program and the University of Texas.
2. The charter class of 1999-2000 of the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor includes no more than 10 members.
3. Each year following the inaugural year, a maximum of five individuals are selected for membership in the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor. If a Vintage student athlete is selected, she is counted as one of the five.
4. After the inaugural year of 1999-2000, no more than one non-student athlete per year (administrator, coach of legacy individual or group) will be inducted into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor. Non-athletes are not counted against the annual limit of five student athlete inductees.
Article III. Selection Committee
1. In its first year (1999-2000), the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor Selection Committee will be comprised of 21 members selected by the UT Women's Athletics Director. Members serve 1, 2, or 3 year terms on the committee as determined in a lottery.
2. The UT Women's Athletics Director appoints one member to serve as the chair of the Selection Committee.
3. The UT Women's Athletics Director appoints two representatives of UT Athletics, the T-Association Co-Executive Director for Women and a UT Athletics representative to serve as Ex Officio members of the Selection Committee.
4. Each year thereafter, in addition to making selections for the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor, the Selection Committee nominates seven individuals to serve on the Selection Committee for three-year terms, with the chair designated by the UT Women's Athletics Director.
5. Members of the Selection Committee may be automatically recommended to serve a second consecutive three-year term on the committee.
6. Members of the Selection Committee should include former student athletes, current and former administrators, and community leaders with a knowledge of and interest in the UT Women's Athletics Program.
7. The Selection Committee convenes once a year for the purpose of deciding whether to consider nominations and whether to make selections for induction into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor. If the Selection Committee decides to induct a class, the Chair convenes a selection meeting well in advance of the ceremony date.
8. Each year, members of the full Selection Committee propose names of prospective Selection Committee members. The full Selection Committee is responsible for electing new selection committee members when deemed necessary.
9. Each year, the T-Association Co-Executive Director designates members to form a Research Sub-Committee that is responsible for the collection and organization of historical data on potential nominees. The data from the research sub-committee is distributed to all members of the Selection Committee for review. The data is given to the Nominations Sub-Committee for further vetting.
10. Each year, the T-Association Co-Executive Director for women designates members to form a Nominations Sub-Committee. The Nominations Sub-Committee screens the nomination packets from the potential candidates vetted by the Research Committee. The Nominations Sub-Committee is responsible for the completion of the nomination process.
11. Each year, the T-Association Co-Executive Director designates members to form a Vintage Sub-Committee to solicit, suggest and screen nominees of former student-athletes who have been eligible for consideration for 30 or more years. The vintage category is not required to be considered annually. In years it deems to be appropriate, the Vintage Sub-Committee should bring to the Selection Committee a slate of vintage nominees. The Vintage Committee should consider these nominees in accordance with the same high athletics and other criteria applicable to nominated athletes. The strongest candidates should be selected. No more than one student vintage athlete may be inducted in any given year. Once a vintage student athlete is selected by the entire Selection Committee as one of the five (or fewer) athletes to be inducted into the Hall of Honor in a particular year, the designation of "vintage" should not thereafter be applied to the Student athlete's selection.
Article IV. Nominations
1. Candidate suggestions for submission to the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor may be submitted by any member of UT Athletics, a current or former athlete, or any interested individual. Self-nominations are not accepted.
2. UT Athletics for Women solicits nominations through mailing to all T-Association members and through other publications and resources. All candidate suggestions must be received by the established deadline prior to the nominations sub-committee meeting.
3. A candidate, once nominated, remains a nominee to the Hall of Honor for a period of five years. After five years, the expired nomination is removed from the nomination pool and submitted to the nominations sub-committee for re-consideration. The nominations sub-committee, at its discretion, may approve the candidate for re-nomination.
