Zero waste means that at least 90% of waste generated at Texas Athletics facilities will be composted or recycled.
The Zero Waste Team's goal is to promote zero waste at Football, Baseball, and Softball events and facilities. We staff and schedule all student sustainability staff, coordinate volunteers, as well as coordinate future projects and initiatives to promote sustainability. We are also working to expand our zero waste initiatives to encourage day-to-day zero waste in our facilities.
In 2017, we were the first Division I school to achieve a zero waste baseball season. During the 2017 Football season, we diverted almost 104 tons of waste from landfills by appropriately recycling and composting. Other projects we've participated in are Lake Cleanup with SAAC (2018) and hosting “TANC Trash Talk” to inform staff and student-athletes on proper waste disposal. Our Green Catering project focuses on providing zero waste catering options for Texas Athletics events. We hope increasing access and awareness allows anyone and any event to be zero waste.
