General thoughts on the game ...
"My thoughts on this game are not very good. We are. rying to find ourselves. We played pretty well in spurts, especially starting the second half, and then shut down. Give credit to Texas Tech. They have one of the most balanced teams in the conferfnece and I've been impressed with them. I told our assistants coming out here that this Tech team might match up better with us than the last few Texas Tech teams we've faced. Yet, I thought we would play better and compete better. We fell back into the pattern of not making plays - not getting the rebounds, and we were not really connected on "D".
I was extremely disappointed in our defense tonight. We got beat on penetration and had no help on the backside. It was a meltdown on defense and we've got to go home and get back to work. It would have been really really great to start our league play and go into Baylor or Tech and steal a win. But, you are supposed to win at home, aren't you? That said, we didn't compete as we should have tonight."
On Texas making its second-half run, cutting the Tech lead to four before a 3-pointer by Alesha Robertson put Tech back up by seven...
"That three by Robertson was huge, no question. But again, it happened on a defensive breakdown. I really liked our intensity and surge up to the point where we were within four, but after that "3" by Robertson, we broke down again."
On the play of Alesha Robertson (game-high 26 points) ...
"She is a really good player who shot the ball incredbily well tonight. The whole Texas Tech team played with condifence. At the same time it is a ballgame of possessions, and we wasted many of ours."
On having Tiffany Jackson sit with two fouls in the first half (missing the final 12 minutes of the half) ...
"That really hurt us. Tiffany gives us so much energy out there. She was really good when she came back onto the court in the second half, wasn't she? Those two quick fouls she got put us at a big disadvantage. We may have to think about playing her with two fouls down the line. That's something I'll be thinking about."
