Jackson's double-double helps UT beat Oklahoma State
02.19.2005 | Women's Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Tiffany Jackson had 25 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 13 Texas beat Oklahoma State 79-46 on Saturday night.
Jackson scored 11 points during an 18-1 run that made it 64-28, and the Longhorns (17-7, 10-3) were well on their way to an 11th straight win against the Cowgirls.
The 6-foot-3 sophomore started the run with a three-point play -- her fourth of the game -- and added two free throws, a turnaround jumper, a scoop basket from around her hips and a fast-break layup as the Cowgirls (7-16, 2-11) went more than 8 minutes without a field goal.
Daria Mieloszynska made a 3-pointer from the left wing, and Kala Bowers added a basket to finish the run.
By the time Catherria Turner and Taleesha Conder hit back-to-back 3-pointers to end the Cowgirls' drought, Jackson was calmly seated on the bench for the rest of the night.
With the win, the Longhorns remained a game behind conference-leader Baylor, which beat 19th-ranked Iowa State 82-77 earlier Saturday.
After a 1-2 start in league play, the Longhorns have won nine of their last 10 Big 12 games -- including four in a row.
Conder scored 16 points to lead Oklahoma State, which has lost its last three games by at least 25 points.
Jackson had a trio of three-point plays during a 16-4 run that put Texas ahead 26-10 midway through the first half. The first came after a basket in transition, the second after an offensive rebound putback and the third off a score underneath the goal.
The Longhorns followed that run with an 11-2 spurt that included two baskets by Annissa Hastings and a 3-pointer by Jamie Carey to go up 37-14.
Oklahoma State closed the first half with a 7-2 run and trailed 44-25 at halftime. Texas scored 21 points off the Cowgirls' 14 first-half turnovers.

POSTGAME QUOTES
Texas Head Coach Jody Conradt
On the game in general...
"We were business-like tonight out there, and did what we needed to do. We never let Oklahoma State get into a flow. Lots of the credit has to go to Tiffany (Jackson) and the work she did on the boards. Our offensive flow is so much better over the last month or so than it was. A lot of it has to do with Tiffany's willingness to get down in the trenches. Just her presence inside draws a double or triple-team before she even makes a move.
We are really focused right now, especially on defense. Tonight, we wanted to get extra pressure applied with our defense and be active with our hands. It also was good to get to share minutes and give our starters a breather, since we are at that point of the season where the legs are starting to wear down.
Our players are going out each game and performing for each other and pulling and supporting each other all game long. We need every win we can get at this point of the season.
Oklahoma State always plays us well here, and this is not an easy place for us to win. I really think the ghost of Mr. Iba runs around the arena when we are here."
On holding senior G Nina Stone, OSU's leading scorer (15.5 ppg) to no points...
"We know lots of Oklahoma State's success goes through Nina Stone. She can score in bunches, and we didn't want to let her get going. We put lots of pressure on her and put lots of different people on her."
