Two Longhorns earn spots on Big 12 Specialty Teams

AUSTIN, Texas -- Two University of Texas players were named to the Big 12 Men's Basketball Specialty Teams, the Kansas City Star announced Monday. The annual awards are selected by sportswriters who regularly cover the league.
Guard Daniel Gibson (Houston, Texas) earned a spot on the seven-man All-Freshman team, joining Aaron Bruce (Baylor), JamesOnCurry (Oklahoma State), Joseph Jones (Texas A&M), Joe McCray (Nebraska), Richard Roby (Colorado) and Martin Zeno (Texas Tech). Gibson leads the Longhorns in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (4.1 apg), steals (52) and minutes (32.6 mpg). He has twice been tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week (Jan. 10 and Jan. 24).
Junior forward Brad Buckman (Austin, Texas) earned a place on both the five-man All-Improved team and the five-person All-Underrated squad. Buckman has reached double digits in scoring 19 times this season, after posting just five double-figure scoring efforts in 32 games last year. He has increased his scoring by 7.0 ppg (from 5.7 last year to 12.7 this season), his rebounding by 3.8 rpg (from 4.5 to 8.3) and his minutes by 10.3 mpg (from 15.2 to 25.5). He leads the squad in rebounding and blocked shots (48) and ranks second (among active players) in scoring.
