Texas and the NBA Draft
06.27.2005 | Men's Basketball
The 2005 NBA Draft will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at historic Madison Square Garden. ESPN will provide start-to-finish coverage of the draft beginning at 6 p.m. Central.
Since the NBA Draft began in 1947, a total of 30 Longhorns have heard their names called. Texas has produced six first-round picks and eight second-round selections.
UT has had five draft picks in the last six years, including a current streak of three consecutive years with a draftee. Chris Owens was taken with the 48th pick by Milwaukee (then traded to Memphis on draft night) in 2002, while T.J. Ford was selected with the eighth pick by Milwaukee in 2003. Last year, Royal Ivey continued the streak as he was tabbed the 37th pick by Atlanta.
