Hey everyone!
Hope everyone's holiday time is going well!
Right now, we are in San Diego, getting ready for our first game tonight as we go up against Oregon State from the Pac-10.
We are ready to go. Right now, we are on our way to shootaround practice at a really nice arena -- the Jenny Craig Pavilion -- at the University of San Diego.
It's basketball tournament time and the football Holiday Bowl here in San Diego this week -- in fact, our beautiful Westin hotel is full of women's teams from all over the country, playing in different Basketball Travelers tournanments here. The teams are from all divisions and from junior colleges.
Oh, and the Aggie band is here at the Westin, too, ready to play for the Texas A&M-California football bowl game.
I went to Florida for Christmas break, and spent some time with my dad's parents -- my grandparents Doretha and Ernest Bailey in Leesburg, right outside of Orlando.
And, I ate everything in sight! (Coach, don't read this!)
Then, we flew back to Austin and then chartered to San Diego on the 26th. I was really excited to come to San Diego, since I've heard it is a great place and I've never been anywhere in California except for L.A.
Yesterday, on our off-day, we went to a really beautiful historic hotel on the beach at Coronado (the Hotel del Coronado). It had lots of people sightseeing there, lots of Christmas decorations and a beautiful ocean view. But is was windy and freezing cold! We ate outside, although it was really, really cold and windy. We wondered why we were out there, with plastic wind screens in front of us, but we realized that we needed to seat about 30 people and that was the only place we could fit.
I tried to be a good teammate and I gave my jacket to Erika (Arriaran), the Cali native, because she only had a t-shirt on! 'Tis the season to give, right?
We are blown away by how beautiful it is here. Most important, I can tell that we are really read to play. We won our first tournament of the year -- the Basketball Travelers Classic in Austin to start the season -- and we want to win this tournament, too, and go into the Big 12 with a 10-3 record.
We've talked a lot at practice and in film sessions that we are about to start most important part of the season and we need to start getting better every game.
Time for shootaround...
