02.11.2006 | Men's Basketball
DALLAS -- Former University of Texas standout T.J. Ford has been named to the five-person Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball 10th Anniversary Team, the league office announced Saturday. Ford was joined on the team by Nick Collison (Kansas), Marcus Fizer (Iowa State), Kirk Hinrich (Kansas) and Raef LaFrentz (Kansas).
A combined media panel and on-line fan voting was used to select the squad. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an All-Big 12 First Team selection at least once in their careers. Nearly 5,000 fans participated in on-line voting through the league's web site.
Ford earned the Naismith and Wooden Awards in 2003 as the National Player of the Year. A consensus first-team All-America selection in 2003, he also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors that season. The only University of Texas basketball player to have his number retired, Ford was the consensus Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2002.
