Off-season drills: Karen Haight
03.21.2006 | Soccer
Each week TexasSports.com will catch up with a different player to get their perspectives about soccer and the off-season, as well as some interesting facts about themselves. This week's player is senior defender Karen Haight. Karen has some great memories from her last three years on the team, but also has some big goals for her squad in her final season.
What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming season? "I'm looking forward to winning a Big 12 Championship. That's something I've wanted to accomplish since I arrived at Texas. That's one of our team's goals every year and it's something I really want to achieve before I graduate."
Is there a favorite memory that stands out from your last three years on the team? "My favorite memory was when we played Portland during the Sweet 16 in 2004. It was exciting to play near home in front of my family and friends, especially since my father had never seen me play a college game until then. Even though we lost, I was proud of the way the team played and it gave us great experience heading into the 2005 season."
What food or drink could you not live without for a month? "Peanut Butter! I especially love to eat peanut butter on wheat thins. It hasn't always been my favorite food, but recently I can't live without it."
Who inspired you to play soccer? "I guess I would attribute that to my dad. He basically signed me up for multiple sports when I was younger. I was terrible at baseball and not tall enough for basketball. Based on process of elimination, soccer just ended up being the perfect sport for me."
