AUSTIN, Texas -- Damion James (Nacogdoches, Texas) will play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Rick Barnes announced today. The addition of James finalizes a seven-man recruiting class that includes point guard D.J. Augustin, swingman Kevin Durant, forward Matt Hill, combo guard Justin Mason, center Dexter Pittman and shooting guard Harrison Smith.
"Damion comes from a high school program where having a great work ethic is an expectation," Barnes said. "His high school coaches are fundamentally sound and helped develop his understanding of the game. Damion is a complete basketball player who is comfortable anywhere on the court. He has strong leadership skills and simply loves to win."
James (6-8, 225), a forward from Nacogdoches High School who played under coach Mark Richardson, is ranked as the No. 16 high school prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. James, who also was tabbed the No. 1 prospect in the state of Texas by Mike Kunstadt's TexasHoops.com, averaged 24 points, 16 rebounds, nine blocks and seven assists per game during his senior season.
