Wycliffe and Dizdar named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- Longhorn senior swimmer Elizabeth Wycliffe and junior tennis ace Petra Dizdar were named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District 6 At-Large Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wycliffe and Dizdar are both first-time Academic All-Distinct honorees.
CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs with the At-Large team being highly competitive with eight different sports in that category: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions.
Wycliffe (Kingston, Ontario), an advertising major with a 3.52 GPA, is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection. The UT backstroke specialist, Wycliffe was the 2006 Big 12 Swimmer of the Year. She finished her career as a three-time All-American and a five-time Big 12 Champion, including three consecutive 200-yard backstroke league titles.
Dizdar (Split, Croatia), who carries a 3.49 GPA in public relations, held a 38-31 singles and doubles record this season. Now a three-time All-Big 12 singles selection, she was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 singles team this season after compiling an 8-3 singles mark in conference play. She collected her second consecutive Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection this season, as well.
At the UT Women's Awards banquet in April, Wycliffe was named the recipient of the Babe Zaharias/Carlette Guidry/Leigh Ann Fetter Endowed Scholarship. Dizdar, the co-Team MVP and two-time tennis Academic MVP, was the recipient of UT's Anne Haskins Grousbeck Endowed Scholarship.
