No. 13 Men's Tennis overpowers Arkansas, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 13 Texas (6-4) completed a clean sweep of doubles play and took five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Arkansas (6-10) Wednesday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

UT opened doubles play with a victory as junior Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) and sophomore Miguel Reyes Varela (Cocoyoc, Mexico) posted an 8-3 win at second doubles over Branden Joost and Jorge Villanueva. The Longhorns clinched the doubles point at the third position when juniors Luis Diaz Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) and Bernhard Deussner (Vienna, Austria) dealt Gabriel Mattos and Bradwin Williams an 8-2 defeat. Texas completed the doubles sweep at the first slot when freshmen Josh Zavala (Amarillo, Texas) and Dimitar Kutrovsky (Sofia, Bulgaria) defeated the Razorbacks' Blake Strode and Colin Mascall, 8-5.

Zavala added on to the Texas tally with a 6-3, 6-3 win at fourth singles over Williams. Diaz Barriga extended the Longhorns' lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Dmitry Vlaskin at third singles.

Kutrovsky held off Strode in a first-set tiebreaker before taking the second set, 6-2, at first singles to clinch the match for Texas. Sophomore Jonah Kane-West (Free Union, Va.) held off the Hogs' Villanueva in two sets at sixth singles to push the Texas lead to 5-0.

Freshman Rook Schellenberg (Dallas, Texas) dropped the first set to Dmitry Lebedev at fifth singles before rallying for victories in the ensuing two sets to take the match. Mihailovic held a late lead at second singles over Mascall, but Mascall rallied to victory in the final set.

Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 10 when it hosts No. 16 Duke at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Central.
