Series vs. Oklahoma
Wednesday's contest marks the 70th meeting between Texas and Oklahoma. The Sooners hold a 45-24 lead in the all-time series that dates back to a 59-26 OU victory in Norman on Feb. 25, 1910. The Horns have won three straight and are 8-3 against the Sooners in the last 11 meetings between the two schools (dating back to the start of the 2002-03 season). OU sports a 21-8 advantage in games played in Norman.
A Check of the Polls
Texas is ranked No. 12 in the latest Associated Press poll (Feb. 4) and No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll (Feb. 4). UT was tabbed No. 15 in the AP preseason poll and No. 16 in the Coaches' preseason rankings. This marks the sixth consecutive year and 10th time in the last 12 seasons that UT has been ranked in the AP preseason poll. It also marks the seventh consecutive year that UT has been ranked in the coaches' preseason poll. During the Barnes era, the Horns have spent 122 weeks in the AP Top 25, including 47 in the Top 10.
Texas-Baylor Game Notes
-Texas improved to 21-0 against Baylor during the Rick Barnes era. The Horns have won 46 of the last 53 meetings between the two schools dating back to the 1982-83 season.
- UT posted its largest comeback victory (14 points) of the year. The Horns trailed 31-17 with 8:05 left in the first half. This marked Texas' second double-digit comeback win at home in Big 12 play this year. UT also rallied from a 13-point deficit against Colorado (trailed 41-28 with 19:02 left in the second half).
- For the second straight meeting against Baylor, Texas overcame a double-digit deficit to the Bears. The Horns trailed Baylor 48-28 with 17:06 left in the second half during a 2007 Big 12 Championship quarterfinal contest, before UT rallied to post a 74-69 win (March 9, 2007).
- A.J. Abrams (20 points) reached the 20-point mark for the ninth time this year and 18th time in his career (92 games). He reached double figures in scoring for the 17th time this year and 55th time in his career.
- Damion James (17 points, eight rebounds) reached double figures in scoring for the 13th time this year and 25th time in his career (56 games). He came off the bench for the first time as a Longhorn (started the first 55 games of his career). James led the Horns in rebounding for the 18th time this year.
- Connor Atchley (14 points) reached double figures in scoring for the ninth time this year and 12th time in his career (85 games).
- Gary Johnson (12 points, seven rebounds) reached double figures in scoring for the second time this year. He also tied his career high in rebounds and posted the first two blocked shots of his career.
- Dexter Pittman made his first career start.
