Marshevet Hooker finishes fifth in 200m finals at Summer Olympics

BEIJING -- Former Longhorn Marshevet Hooker ran a personal-best 22.34 in the 200-meter finals for a fifth place finish Thursday morning at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Hooker's fifth-place finish was the best by a Longhorn in the event since the 1992 games when Juliet Cuthbert earned the silver medal.
Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica won the tightly-contested final with a personal-best mark of 21.74. American Allyson Felix finished just under two-tenths of a second behind Campbell-Brown at 21.93 to earn the silver while Jamaica's Kerron Stewart claimed the bronze in 22.00.
Hooker competed at Texas during the 2004-06 seasons and helped the Horns to the 2005 NCAA outdoor team title and 2006 NCAA indoor team title. She earned nine All-America honors at UT, claimed two NCAA individual titles (2005 outdoor 100m, 2006 indoor 60M) and was a member of the 2005 4x100m outdoor relay team that finished first at NCAAs.
