No. 3 Women's Swimming and Diving overpowers No. 17 SMU, 150-87

AUSTIN, Texas - No. 3 Texas (8-1) claimed 12 of 13 events on its way to a 150-87 victory over No. 17 SMU Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Freshman Leah Gingrich scored UT's first victory when she claimed the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16 minutes, 21.77 seconds. Sophomore Ashleigh McCleery followed in second in 16:37.65, and sophomore Natalie Sacco took third in 16:45.31.
Freshman Katie Riefenstahl led a one-two Texas finish in the 200 freestyle, where she took first in 1:48.40. Junior Susana Escobar took second in 1:49.17. Senior Hee-Jin Chang added a win in the 50 freestyle in 22.79. Freshman Becca Tomlin took fourth in 24.14.
Freshmen Kathleen Hersey and Karlee Bispo led a one-two Texas finish in the 200 IM. Hersey took first in 2:01.00, and Bispo followed in second in 2:02.64. Gingrich added her second win in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.72, and McCleery took second in 2:01.02. Chang scored her second victory in the 100 freestyle in 49.50. Riefenstahl took second in 50.39.
Senior Kathryn Kelly led a one-two Texas finish in the one-meter diving event. Kelly took first with 312.15 points, and senior Jessica Livingston placed second with 291.53 points. Freshman Shelby Cullinan placed fourth with 274.20 points.
Senior Rebecca Orr made the most of Senior Day by winning the 200 backstroke in 1:59.79. Sophomore Abbie Mahoney followed in second in 2:00.24. Hersey led a first through fourth Texas finish in the 500 freestyle. She claimed the event in 4:43.30, and Bispo took second in 4:49.61. Junior Traci Van Matre took third in 4:57.52, and sophomore Natalie Sacco placed fourth in 4:57.87.
Kelly later added her second diving win with 334.80 points in the three-meter event. Livingston followed with 333.30 points, and Cullinan took third with 320.10 points. Hersey notched a win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.25, and McCleery took third with 2:19.32 points.
Texas finished off the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Gingrich, Bispo, Chang and Riefenstahl claimed the victory in 3:19.11.
Texas resumes competition on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Houston in the Horns' regular-season finale.
