Women's Tennis falls to Baylor, 4-1 in Big 12 finals

NORMAN, Okla. - Second-seeded Texas (16-7) picked up a singles win from junior Vanja Corovic, but top-seeded Baylor proved to be too much Sunday afternoon, winning by a 4-1 count in the finals of the Big 12 Championship.
Baylor opened the match by winning a tight doubles session to take a 1-0 lead. Texas' Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson held a 5-3 lead over Nina Secerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz, but the Bears rallied to claim the remaining five games and earned an 8-5 win. UT sophomore Amanda Craddock and Krista Damico trailed Baylor's Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk by a 7-3 count at second doubles before rallying and pulling within 7-6.
But, Baylor closed out the final game to win the match, 8-6 and clinch the doubles point. The remaining match at first doubles featuring Texas' Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic against BU's Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova was suspended at six games apiece.
Baylor's Secerbegovic pushed the Bears' lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over UT's Craddock at fifth singles. Texas' Corovic responded with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win over Baylor's Ormond at first singles to cut the Baylor deficit to 2-1.
But, the Bears took the next two decisions to close out the victory. BU's Broosova finished off UT's Damico by a 6-0, 6-1 count at the second slot, and the Bears' Borsanyi registered the final point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Larsson at third singles.
Texas now awaits the NCAA Championships selection show set to air Tuesday, April 28 on ESPNEWS. The NCAA Championships selections will be unveiled at approximately 4:20 p.m. Central.
