AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas forward/center Alexis Wangmene has been granted a medical hardship waiver from the Big 12 Conference for the 2008-09 season, the school announced Monday. Wangmene will be a redshirt sophomore for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
Wangmene played in four of the first five games for the Longhorns this past year and averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per contest. He had surgery on his right knee on Dec. 17 and missed the remainder of the season.
In UT's win against Saint Joseph's during the opening round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational (Nov. 24), Wangmene posted eight points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal in just nine minutes off the bench.
