Campanelli earns preseason All-Big 12 honors

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 15 University of Texas Soccer team is picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Texas A&M and 2008 Big 12 Postseason Champion Missouri tied for the top spot with 91 points followed by Colorado (76 points), Oklahoma State (68 points) and UT (66 points). Kansas was tabbed sixth, followed by Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor and Iowa State.
Junior defender Erica Campanelli also earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Campanelli has started for UT defense in every match (46) since she arrived at UT in 2006. The 2008 Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection helped hold opponents to a program-low 14 goals last season along with aiding the backline in posting a school-record 11 shutouts.
Texas opens its season at 7 p.m. Central on Friday, Aug. 14 with an exhibition match at Louisiana State. The regular season will kick off on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. Central vs. TCU in Austin (Mike A. Myers Stadium).
