Women's Tennis collects nine singles wins on final day of Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas was victorious in nine of 11 singles matches Sunday as it wrapped up play at the Georgia Invitational, a three-day individual indoor event featuring players from UT, Georgia, Georgia State, Troy and Kansas State.
Texas junior Maggie Mello scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Georgia State's Kir Kemp, and senior Sarah Lancaster registered a 6-3, 6-0 win over Georgia State's Martina Ondrackova. Senior Stephanie Davison notched her fourth win of the weekend, as she defeated Kansas State's Ana Gomez Aleman, 6-2, 6-2.
UT junior Abby Liu tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kansas State's Nina Sertic, and sophomore Maya Zein-El-Abdin knocked off Kansas State's Natasha Vieira by a 7-5, 6-4 count. Sophomore Krista Damico, ranked 27th in the ITA preseason singles rankings, surrendered nothing to Kansas State's Karla Bonacic and was victorious, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Aeriel Ellis, ranked 22nd in the ITA preseason singles rankings, posted a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win over Kansas State's Antea Huljev, and junior Amanda Craddock defeated Kansas State's Petra Chuda by a 6-2, 7-6 (7) count. Junior Caroline Larsson added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kansas State's Carmen Borau Ramos.
Texas opens the 2010 regular season on Saturday, Jan. 23 against Rice at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
