Trio of Longhorns named Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas senior forward Gary Johnson, sophomore swingman Jordan Hamilton and freshman guard Cory Joseph were named Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention, the league office announced Thursday.
A two-time Big 12 Conference All-Reserve Team selection, Johnson has played in 88 career games (17 starts) entering his senior season. He ranked third on the team in rebounding (5.6 rpg), second in field goal percentage (.547) and sixth in scoring (9.4 ppg) last year. Johnson upped his production to 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per contest in league play last season.
The top returning scorer (10.0 ppg) for the Longhorns, Hamilton ranked fourth on the team in scoring and rebounding (3.7 rpg) while playing just 19.9 minutes per contest last year. He played in all 34 games off the bench as a freshman and led the squad in three-point field goals made (58-of-159). Hamilton had 18 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 27 points in just 19 minutes at Oklahoma State (Feb. 1).
Joseph was ranked as the No. 11 prospect nationally in the ESPNU 100 following his senior season. A McDonald's All-American and Jordan All-American, Joseph also earned first-team All-America honors by Parade Magazine. He led Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) to a 32-2 mark and the ESPN Rise NHSI title, averaging a team-best 18.8 points, 4.9 assists, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game as a senior.
Kansas State guard Jacob Pullen was tabbed the Preseason Player of the Year. Missouri forward Ricardo Ratliffe garnered Preseason Newcomer of the Year accolades, while Kansas guard Josh Selby was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year. Players honored in preseason voting were selected by the league's head coaches. The coaches were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
The five-person Preseason All-Big 12 team includes LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor), Cory Higgins (Colorado), Marcus Morris (Kansas), Curtis Kelly (Kansas State) and Pullen. The trio of Longhorns was joined on the honorable mention list by Alec Burks (Colorado), Josh Selby (Kansas), Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas), Jamar Samuels (Kansas State), Kim English (Missouri), David Loubeau (Texas A&M), John Roberson (Texas Tech) and Mike Singletary (Texas Tech).
