AUSTIN, Texas -- Former University of Texas Basketball player and current NBA All-Star Kevin Durant is on the cover of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated. This marks the third time Durant has been selected to grace the cover of the popular publication. He also made previous appearances in February 2007 during his freshman year at The University of Texas and in October 2008 prior to his second season in the NBA.
This week's issue hits newsstands on Wednesday, Oct. 20. An on-line copy of the article on Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the magazine's NBA season preview can be found at SportsIllustrated.cnn.com.
Durant shares this week's cover with fellow Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Thabo Sefolosha and Nenad Krstic, an idea that reportedly was crafted by Durant.
"People don't really know about them too much for some odd reasons," Durant said. "So it was good to have them in there with me ... People don't really talk about them too much, but they're playing a role. They're guys we have to have on this team. So I want everybody to know how much they're important to us and what great teammates they are. So it was the chance to voice my opinion, and I'm glad Sports Illustrated put them on the cover with me."
The idea of sharing a publication's front cover with his teammates is not a first for Durant. During his year at Texas, the 2007 consensus National Player of the Year shared the cover of the April 2007 issue of Dime Magazine with four of his UT teammates: A.J. Abrams, D.J. Augustin, Damion James and Justin Mason (see April 2007 Dime Magazine on this page).
