No. 16 Women's Basketball defeats Idaho State, 82-68

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Ashleigh Fontenette and Chassidy Fussell each scored 20 points to lead No. 16 Texas to an 82-68 victory over Idaho State on Wednesday.
Two other players scored in double-figures for the Longhorns (4-0) against the Bengals (3-3). Kathleen Nash had 17 and Yvonne Anderson added 11 for Texas.
Idaho State's scrappy defense kept the Bengals within striking distance for most of the game, but Texas held tight to the lead in the second half. Usually a sharp-shooting team with a .423 mark with 3-pointers, Texas struggled from beyond the arc making just 4 of 26. But free throws ultimately helped the Longhorns command the game as they went 16-of-19 from the line.
Chelsea Pickering had 18 points and Lindsey Reed and Ashleigh Vella each added 12 for Idaho State.

- Texas used a 10-0 run to climb from a 27-25 deficit to a 35-27 advantage with 5:06 remaining in the first half ... the run began at 6:53 and spanned 1:47.

- Has recorded at least four steals in all four games this season, after only accomplishing the feat once in her previous two years as a Longhorn.
Chassidy Fussell
- Recorded fourth-straight double-digit scoring effort of the season with 20 points (7-of-16 FG, 1-of-8 3FG, 2-of-2 FT)
- Posted her third 20+ scoring effort as a Longhorn.
- First true freshman to record four-straight double-digit scoring efforts in first four games of her career since Heather Schreiber in 2001.
Tiffany Moore
- Made her first appearance of the season after missing the first three games due to a wrist injury and recorded two points, four rebounds and two assist.
KAT NASH
- Recorded her second-straight double-double with 17 points (7-of-16 FG, 1-of-8 3FG, 2-of-2 FT) and 10 rebounds
- The double-double was the 11th of her career.
- Registered back-to-back double-doubles for the first time of her career.
- Made at least one three-point basket for the 16th straight game dating back to Feb. 3, 2010 when she did not make one.

HEAD COACH Gail Goestenkors
Opening Statement: I thought this was a really good game for us to play. I don't think we played particularly well, but I give a lot of credit to Idaho State. I thought they did a tremendous job. They're difficult to defend because everybody can shoot the three. There aren't many teams in the country that can spread you out, and everyone can shoot. I thought they also did a tremendous job penetrating on us. When we gave help they were able to find the open shooter for an easy shot, and when we failed to give help they just took it all the way for an easy bucket. It was a tough team to defend. I also thought we settled for the 3-point shot too much when we weren't getting open. This was a great learning game for us, and we're going to be better because of this game. I thought we played hard. I didn't think we always played smart on either end of the floor. It's good when you can learn a lesson and come away with the win at the same time.
On the improved play late in the first half: Well to begin with we were not switching on screens. I thought they did a nice job of screening us and finding the open person. They're an exceptional screening team. Then, about halfway through we decided to switch on all screens, and I think that disrupted them a bit.
FRESHMAN GUARD Tiffany Moore
On getting back onto the court: It felt great to be back on the floor playing with my teammates. I was somewhat jealous seeing them running up and down the court during practice. When I finally got back out there, it kind of came natural. My teammates pepped me out while I was out there which really helped me out.
On worrying about reinjuring her wrist: You know I really didn't think about it until after my first shot. My initial thought was to be careful because I did not want to reinjure it. However, all great players know they have to fight through it, and that's what I tried to do.
JUNIOR GUARD Yvonne Anderson
On what her role is on the team: Well I am playing with more freedom and more confidence. I've always known what I could do, and it was always just a matter of having the change to get on the floor and then doing it.
On where her confidence comes from: Just from myself knowing that I have to step up. I'm an upperclassman now, so I have to attack and score. I have to do things that I was taught to do. It's my time to be a leader, be aggressive, and show what I can do.
