NEW ORLEANS -- University of Texas sophomore Mia Behm has been named to the 2009 Cross Country Division I All-Academic team as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
Behm garnered the honor with a GPA of 3.369 in Liberal Arts. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and must have finished among the top 15 finishers in their respective NCAA regional meet.
During the 2009 cross country season, Behm earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing 11th overall at the NCAA South Central Regional with a time of 21:23.4. The Tyler native, along with senior Betzy Jimenez, represented the Longhorns for the first time since 2003 at the national meet. She ended the season with a personal best time of 21:20.3 for 104th at her first national championship.
This isn't the first time Behm has been recognized for her success in the classroom. The sophomore was given a nod by the Big 12 this fall by being named to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, and last summer, USTFCCCA honored Behm for her academic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
