Rowing records five wins against Kansas

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Rowing team registered five victories, including the two fastest times of the day in Saturday's dual regatta with Kansas. The Longhorns posted wins in the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, first varsity four, first novice eight and second novice eight races.
The first varsity eight boat comprised of coxswain Mary Cait McPherson, stroke Jacqueline Gorcyca, Laurel McCaig, Meg George, Courtney Nicklas, Sally Tunell, Nancy Arrington, Jennifer VanderMaarel and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner posted the best time of the day, defeating the Jayhawks, 6:46.2-to-7:08.0.
The Longhorns' second varsity eight crew of Coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Stephanie Matejka, Anna Thomson, Katarina Susac, Callie Mattrisch, Jelena Zunic, Tajana Lovric, Charity McDonald and Karli Sheahan crossed the finish with the day's second fastest time (7:06.8) to down KU (7:17.0).
Texas' first varsity four of coxswain Megan Kelly, Colleen Irby, Katrina Cerk, Audrey Ullman and Julia Stevens posted a time of 7:53.0 to knock off Kansas which clocked a time of 8:00.0.
The first novice eight posted a 7:18.1-to-7:33.3 win in its race, while the second novice eight notched a 7:22.3-to-7:35.5 victory.
The Horns' only loss of the day was an 8:05.3-to-8:00.7 loss in the second varsity four. Texas' third novice eight did post a victory to start the day, beating Texas Crew by more than a minute, 7:39.7-to-8:42.3.
Texas returns to the water on Saturday, April 17 when it travels to Sacramento, Calif. for the two-day Lake Natoma Invitational.
