Rowing completes first session at Lake Natoma Invitational

GOLDEN RIVER, Calif. -- The Texas Rowing team completed its first session at the second annual Lake Natoma Invitational with the first novice eight headlining the Horns' performance with a victory.
Texas' lone novice boat of coxswain Erin Gamez, stroke Taylor Parker, Madeline Shaw, Callan Wingo, Chelsea Burns, Lyndsey DuBose, Emily Gross, Sarah Pedersen and Jillian Domingue notched a victory in its race, posting a time of 6:56.20 to earn a place in the G final with California and Washington State.
The Horns' first varsity eight of coxswain Mary Cait McPherson, stroke Jacqueline Gorcyca, Felicia Izaguirre-Werner, Jennifer VanderMaarel, Laurel McCaig, Jelena Zunic, Courtney Nicklas, Meg George and Nancy Arrington clocked a time of 6:49.70 to finish third behind No. 3 Stanford (6:30.80) and No. 11 Wisconsin (6:35.26).
Texas' second varsity eight comprised of coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Charity McDonald, Callie Mattrisch, Katarina Susac, Anna Thomson, Sally Tunell, Tajana Lovric, Stephanie Matejka and Karli Sheahan registered a time of 6:53.45, falling to Wisconsin (6:31.50) and Stanford (6:32.70).
The Longhorns' first varsity four of coxswain Megan Kelly, Colleen Irby, Katrina Cerk, Julia Stevens and Natasia Giles completed the race in 7:43.60, finishing behind Wisconsin (7:27.0) and Stanford (7:33.80).
Texas trails the overall competition, finishing the session tied with Minnesota and Sacramento State for seventh place.
The Horns return to action at 5 p.m. Central on Saturday at the Lake Natoma Invitational.
