MONCTON, Canada -- University of Texas junior Stacey-Ann Smith and the USA 4x400m relay brought home the gold medal Sunday afternoon on the closing day of the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships at Moncton 2010 Stadium.
Smith, who finished fourth in the open 400m earlier in the week, ran the second leg of the mile-relay in a 52.1 split to help the squad finish in world-leading junior time of 3:31.20. Smith, along with Diamond Dixon, Laura Roelser and Regina George, won the USA's fifth-straight 4x400m relay world junior title.
The American team outlasted Nigeria (3:31.84) and Jamaica (3:32.24) who each ran season-bests to finish second and third, respectively.

On winning gold: It was amazing - it was probably the best feeling ever. I don't think you guys understand how bad we wanted this. All of us have worked tremendously hard for this and we've been through a lot of ups and downs, but at the end of the day we did it for USA and the team came together, so I'm just proud of them. I love them with all my heart.
