ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Former University of Texas player and current NBA All-Star Kevin Durant posted a game-high 28 points to lead Team USA to an 81-64 win against host Turkey on Sunday in the gold-medal game of the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Durant hit 10-of-17 field goals, including 7-of-13 from three-point range, while adding five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Durant earned Most Valuable Player honors for his efforts, setting a tournament record for most points (205) in a FIBA World Championship by an American player. In the nine-game tourney, Durant led the U.S. team in scoring (22.8 ppg) and minutes played (28.3 mpg) and ranked second in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and steals (13). He converted 74-of-133 (.556) field goals, including 26-of-57 (.456) from three-point range, and 31-of-34 (.912) free throws in the tournament.
The United States won its first world championship since 1994 and earned an automatic qualifying berth to the 2012 London Olympics.
