ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Former University of Texas player and current NBA All-Star Kevin Durant posted 17 points and five rebounds to help Team USA (6-0) to a 121-66 win against Angola on Monday in the Round of 16 at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Durant, who scored all of his points in the decisive first half, hit 7-of-14 field goals while adding one assist without a turnover in just 19 minutes of action.
Through the first six contests, Durant leads the team in scoring (17.7 ppg) and minutes played (23.3 mpg) and ranks tied for second in rebounding (6.0 rpg). He has converted 39-of-72 (.542) field goals, including 11-of-24 (.458) from three-point range, and 17-of-18 (.944) free throws in the tournament.
Team USA now advances to face Russia (5-1) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Sept. 9. Tip time is set for 10 a.m. (Central), and the game will be televised live nationally by ESPN.
The winner of the 2010 FIBA World Championship earns an automatic qualifying berth to the 2012 London Olympics.
