AUSTIN, Texas -- Longhorns fans have a special opportunity to give Texas Football as a gift to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces this holiday season.
San Diego, where Texas will be playing Cal in the 2011 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 28, is home to thousands of Navy and Marine personnel.
"What we are asking," said head coach Mack Brown, "is that fans who can't go to the game -- or would simply like to do something special for the men and women who have served our country -- buy tickets and donate them through our ticket office to the military personnel."
The tickets, which are priced at $60 each, will be delivered by the Longhorns in San Diego.
"It is a great way to say 'thank you' to those who work every day to keep us safe so we can enjoy things like football games," Brown said.
"We've done this before and got a great response, and we hope a lot of our fans who are looking to make a gift during this holiday season will consider this."
A pair of tickets would cost only $120, but there is no limit to the number which could be purchased and donated. An allotment of part of the tickets in the Texas seating section has been set aside for the project.
Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the UT Athletics Ticket Office at 512-471-3333 or 800-982-BEVO (2386) and designating that the tickets be donated to military personnel.
Normal ticket or order charges will not be included for anyone purchasing tickets for donation to military personnel.
