Women's Tennis tops South Florida, 5-2

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas (3-3) took the doubles point and won four of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over South Florida Friday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
UT opened the doubles session with a win at the first slot, as senior Amanda Craddock and freshman Cierra Gaytan-Leach dealt Irene Rehberger and Janette Bejlkova an 8-6 defeat. USF rallied with a win at third doubles, but Texas closed out the doubles session with a win at the second slot, where sophomore Aeriel Ellis and junior Krista Damico posted a 9-8 tiebreak win over Loreto Martinez and Ecaterina Vasenina to clinch the doubles point for the Horns.
UT pushed its lead to 2-0 at sixth singles where senior Caroline Larsson dealt Kate Parker a 6-2, 6-0 defeat. Texas' Craddock extended the UT lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Martinez at fourth singles. Texas freshman Juliana Gajic clinched the win for the Horns at fifth singles, where she registered a 7-5, 6-0 win over Alessandra Bonte.
South Florida notched a win at third singles before UT's Ellis rallied from a one-set deficit to post a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 win over the Bulls' Irene Rehburger. Ellis also trailed in the final set before rallying for the win. The Bulls closed out the match with a three-set victory at second singles.
Texas resumes its spring schedule on Sunday when it hosts Arizona State at noon Central.
