COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Swimming announced Tuesday the selections of Texas junior swimmer Jimmy Feigen, sophomore swimmers Austin Surhoff and Dax Hill and Texas-Ex Michael Klueh to represent the United States this summer at the 2011 World University Games.
The quartet of Longhorns earned selections to the team based upon its performance at the 2010 USA Swimming National Championships last August in Irvine, Calif. The 2011 World University Games are set for Aug. 12-23 in Shenzhen, China with the swimming competition slated for Aug. 14-19.
Feigen (San Antonio, Texas) will compete in the 100-meter freestyle and will join Hill (Round Rock, Texas) on the 400m freestyle relay. Surhoff (Baltimore, Md.), the reigning NCAA champion in the 200 individual medley, will compete in that event in China. Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) is slated to compete in the 400m freestyle and the 800m freestyle relay.
Tuesday's announcement comes on the heels of news last month that Texas head coach Eddie Reese, UT senior Scott Spann and Texas-Exes Ricky Berens, Dave Walters and Garrett Weber-Gale would represent the U.S. in July at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
Texas-Ex Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and UT junior Drew Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas) are in the running to make the U.S. diving roster for the World Championships in China. The U.S. diving roster will be finalized later this spring at the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in May.
