ST. LOUIS -- University of Texas sophomore swingman Jordan Hamilton is one of five players on the All-America Second Team by the United States Basketball Writers Association, the USBWA announced Monday. Hamilton is joined on the association's second team by Kenneth Faried (Morehead State), Ben Hansbrough (Notre Dame), Marcus Morris (Kansas) and Derrick Williams (Arizona). The five-player first team includes Jimmer Fredette (BYU), JaJuan Johnson (Purdue), Nolan Smith (Duke), Jared Sullinger (Ohio State) and Kemba Walker (Connecticut).
With his selection to this prestigious squad, Hamilton becomes the 20th All-American in Texas Basketball history. He is the eighth player in Rick Barnes' 13 seasons at UT to earn All-America honors and sixth Longhorn to claim such honors in the last six years. The list of previous All-Americans at Texas in the Barnes era includes Chris Mihm (consensus first team in 2000), T.J. Ford (consensus first team in 2003), P.J. Tucker (Associated Press and USBWA second team and NABC third team in 2006), LaMarcus Aldridge (NABC third team in 2006), Kevin Durant (consensus first team in 2007), D.J. Augustin (consensus first team in 2008) and Damion James (Sporting News second team and Associated Press third team in 2010).
Through the first 34 contests this season, Hamilton leads the team in scoring (18.6 ppg) and ranks second in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and double-doubles (seven). He has converted 228-of-517 (.441) field goals, including 87-of-224 (.388) from three-point range, and 91-of-116 (.784) free throws. A three-time selection as Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, Hamilton has topped the 20-point mark in 15 of the first 34 games.
