Men's Track and Field's 4x100m advances to finals on day one of NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - Texas' 4x100m relay will run in the final heat at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after running a season-best 39.23 in the semifinals on Wednesday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The squad of juniors Alex Williams and Trevante Rhodes and sophomores Marquise Goodwin and D.J. Monroe took six-hundredths-of-a-second off its previous season-best (39.29) in finishing second in their heat to automatically advance to the final which will be run at approximately 12:11 p.m. CT on Saturday, June 11.
Texas' two decathletes, sophomore Isaac Murphy and junior Kenny Greaves, wrapped up day one after five events sitting in 11th (4,021 points) and 21st (3,748 points), respectively. Murphy's 4,021 points are a day one personal best. He ran the day's fastest 100m time with his wind-aided 10.57 then placed fifth in the 400m with a PR of 48.28, ninth in the long jump with a PR of 23-8.25 (7.22m), 19th in the shot put (41-1.75/12.54m) and 21st in the high jump (6-0.5/1.84m).
Greaves placed seventh in the 400m with a PR of 48.58 for his first time under 49 seconds in the event. He finished 15th in the shot put (42-4.25/12.91m), 18th in the high jump (6-2.75/1.90m), 21st in the 100m (11.33) and 23rd in the long jump (21-4.75/6.52m).
The Longhorns resume competition at the 2011 national meet on Thursday with both decathletes at Noon, Marquise Goodwin in the long jump at 5:35 p.m. CT, sophomore Keiron Stewart in the 110m hurdles semis at 7:10 p.m. CT and the 4x400m semis at 8:30 p.m.
