Former Horn Dylan Armstrong wins silver in shot put at World Championships

DAEGU, Korea - Former Longhorn Dylan Armstrong won the silver medal in the shot put Friday after he posted a mark of 71-0 (21.64m) at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu. It is the first world championship medal for the Canadian who competed at Texas during the 2001 season. He becomes the first Canuck to medal in a throwing event at the world championships.
Armstrong entered the meet with a world-leading mark of 72-10.5 (22.21m), which also set the Canadian National record. He is a five-time national champion in Canada and placed fourth at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2010 World Indoor Championships.
Armstrong is also currently leading the Samsung Diamond League standings with two meets remaining on the circuit. Overall in Daegu, former Texas athletes collected two medals; one gold from Trey Hardee in the decathlon and then Armstrong's silver.
